Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan have finally teamed up for a remix of “expectations,” and the music video is so much fun!
Directed by Bardia Zeinali, the video takes inspiration from classic TV game shows of the ’80s and ’90s, with the two pop stars competing in “The Big Expectations Show.” Talking Heads frontman David Byrne plays the host, Johnny Johnson, while producer Dan Nigro also makes a cameo.
Chappell’s new verse is a standout, bringing a queer perspective to the song that wasn’t present in the original. It’s a fun addition that gives the track a different dimension without losing what made it work in the first place. The remix also marks Chappell’s first-ever feature on another artist’s song.
The collaboration has been years in the making. The two have been friends for years, with Chappell opening for Olivia on both her SOUR Tour and GUTS World Tour. Most recently, Chappell performed at Olivia’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields, a women-led music festival held in Irvine, California, in August. The event raised $20 million for 10 nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls.
